Painted in 1939 during Dam’s years in Paris, the work was described by Sotheby’s as a landmark achievement from the early period of his career and a high point among his celebrated silk paintings. The artist created the 85.6-by-114.5-centimeter work using ink and gouache on silk.

He was among the first-generation artists to graduate from the college, alongside Le Pho, Mai Trung Thu, and Le Thi Luu, whose works have commanded high prices on the international auction market. Dam passed away on July 23, 2000 at the age of 92 in France.
