Absolute Quiet Gives Way to an Unexpected Noise

Silence settles over the household while stockings hang by the chimney in expectation of St. Nicholas. Children dream of sugarplums in their beds as the household slumbers through the cold winter night. A sudden clatter on the lawn shatters the quiet, pulling the narrator to the window to investigate the disturbance outside.

St. Nicholas Arrives with Eight Flying Reindeer

Moonlight on the new-fallen snow illuminates a miniature sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer. Driver St. Nicholas shouts encouragement to Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen as they leap toward the roof. The magical team lands above the house with the sound of prancing hooves.

A Jolly Visitor Fills Stockings Before Vanishing

Down the chimney comes St. Nicholas, dressed in fur soot-stained from the hearth, carrying a bundle of toys over his back. His twinkling eyes, rosy cheeks, and jolly belly bring warmth and cheer into the room as he silently fills every stocking. With a nod up the chimney, he ascends, springing to his sleigh and wishing everyone a happy Christmas before speeding away.
