Days of exposure test human resolve until rescue craft finally transport the remaining survivors to safety.

Fifteen survivors on a makeshift raft endure agonizing sun rays and saltwater burns off the African coast. The unexpected arrival of a single white butterfly kindles intense excitement and signals the proximity of land. Desperate men soothe their parched throats with drops of aromatic tincture and salt water while waiting for rescue. When a brig appears on the horizon, tears of joy replace despair as rescuers pull the survivors aboard.

Four Russian mariners stranded on desolate East Spitzbergen forge iron spearheads to hunt reindeer, foxes, and polar bears for sustenance. They construct leak-proof clay lamps fed by animal fat to illuminate their dark arctic hut throughout long polar nights. Using sinews for thread and improvised needles, the men stitch animal skins into warm winter garments. After six years in arctic isolation, three surviving sailors hail a passing vessel and return home.

A mysterious greenish flame settles on the jib-boom of a British warship, alarming the crew during a dark gale. The vessel pursues a nimble schooner through moonlight, exchanging heavy cannon fire that splinters wood and fells sailors. A fatal shot from a dying boatswain triggers a sudden explosion, destroying the fleeing vessel in a flash of fire. Silence returns to the open sea, leaving only floating debris and quiet waves in the moonlight.
