Social hierarchy and hypocritical epitaphs follow the dead below ground
Heartbroken over an unattainable heiress, a young reporter seeks solitude in dark Trinity Churchyard only to encounter shades rising from their vaults. A sea captain's ghost accepts tobacco and whiskey, exposing how worldly vanities and false gravestone inscriptions burden the dead. Flatteries carved in stone force spirits into tedious labor to rub out the lies before earning their final passports. The sociable shade invites the living journalist into honeycombed subterranean vaults for a grand gathering of spirits.
