The First Part: Fire Fails as a Universal Analyzer

Alchemists assume fire isolates elemental principles by breaking materials down to their purest forms. Subjecting diverse materials to heat proves otherwise, as different temperatures produce entirely different substances. Fire acts as a force of chemical transformation rather than a passive instrument of separation. The Aristotelian four elements and Paracelsian tria prima cannot be proved simply by burning a sample.

The Second Part: Heat Creates New Substances During Combustion

Products obtained from combustion, such as soot, spirit, and ash, are not pre-existing elements released by heat. Thermal energy causes chemical reactions that generate entirely new compounds. Distillation residues reveal that heating wood produces tars and acid spirits that never existed inside the unburnt timber. Burning a substance alters its microscopic structure instead of exposing original ingredients.

The Third Part: Element Counts Cannot Be Fixed A Priori

Defining matter by exactly three principles or four elements forces nature into an arbitrary schema. Experimental testing extracts five or more distinct substances from certain materials, while others resist resolution altogether. Gold survives intense heat without yielding salt, sulphur, or mercury. Rational inquiry requires counting elements by what experiment reveals rather than imposing mystical numerical limits.

The Fourth Part: Elements Do Not Retain Forms in Compounds

A compound possesses chemical qualities entirely absent from its isolated ingredients. When mercury and sulphur combine to form cinnabar, neither original component exhibits its individual properties until separated back out. Elements do not remain as distinct, unattached entities inside a mixed body. Chemical synthesis merges fundamental units into new structural arrangements with unique physical properties.

The Fifth Part: Paracelsian Principles Fail Empirical Scrutiny

Alchymical assertions that all bodies consist of salt, sulphur, and mercury crumble under systematic laboratory testing. Refractory metals, glass, and stones produce no trace of these supposed universal principles regardless of the solvents or heat applied. Spagyric theory relies on broad metaphors rather than repeatable operational definitions. Universal elemental claims require proof across every class of physical matter.

The Sixth Part: Matter Consists of Mobile Corpuscular Aggregates

Matter is composed of minute, solid particles that join together into tiny clusters. Physical and chemical behaviors result from the motion, shape, and spatial arrangement of these corpuscular groups. Chemical changes occur when particles rearrange or transfer between bodies without changing their fundamental substance. Mechanical corpuscular principles explain natural phenomena far more clearly than speculative alchemical essences.
