Total centralization turns global commerce into absolute tyranny

In the third millennium, trust magnate Huggs holds global power from a glass-domed command center, dictating terms to bankrupt nations. He grooms his son Robert to inherit this empire, but Robert returns from the Azores having chosen moral responsibility over wealth. Joined by Graciosa, Robert rejects his father's ruthless vision of dominance. Meanwhile, Huggs's discarded son Ernst embraces total destructive nihilism with a gang of agitators.

Conscience transforms labor resistance into a moral stand

On a giant shipyard, Huggs attempts to crush the rival Union by threatening artificial famine across Europe through grain blockades. Robert counters by urging workers to join a peaceful, high-minded strike rather than resort to mob violence. As Huggs reveals his madness by manipulating world powers into total war, his corrupt son Ernst sets the shipyard ablaze. The conflict turns tragic when Huggs's fragile daughter Gertrud takes a bullet meant for her father.

Solidarity overthrows tyranny when soldiers refuse to fight

On the isolated island of Graciosa, a broken Huggs finds brief repentance while Ernst threatens final ruin. The threatened global war vanishes when armies across all nations lay down their weapons with a unified cry of refusal. Airplanes shower the island with leaflets proclaiming peace, freedom from monopoly, and an international tribunal for Huggs. Robert leads his humbled father to face judgment, leaving the nihilist Ernst isolated on a doomed volcano.
