Power shifts when brute physical force outmaneuvers subtle political sorcery.

Sorcery destroys King Bhunda Chand from afar through a stolen lock of hair, forcing Devi Yasmina to slay her own brother to save his soul. When she travels to the border fortress of Peshkhauri to bargain using captive hill-men, the barbarian chief Conan bypasses diplomatic traps entirely. He scales the fort bastions and kidnaps the queen herself as leverage. Meanwhile, the renegade wizard Khemsa slays the prisoners with green fire, upending both royal and sorcerous ambitions.

1 Death Strikes a King → 5 The Black Stallion

Uncompromising willpower can temporarily check dark magic, but masters reclaim control.

Fleeing toward Afghulistan, Conan exchanges silk royal robes for rugged hill attire to hide Yasmina's identity amidst mountain crags. When the renegade magician Khemsa confronts them, four Black Seers descend in a crimson cloud to break their former servant. They destroy Khemsa's focus by forcing his lover over a precipice before crushing the cliff beneath him. Dying, Khemsa leaves Conan a protective Stygian girdle, forcing the barbarian into an uneasy alliance with the Turanian spy Kerim Shah.

6 The Mountain of the Black Seers → 9 The Castle of the Wizards

Shattering an arcane anchor frees mortal strength to crush cosmic horrors.

Inside the mountain citadel, four Black Seers compel invading tribesmen to decapitate themselves until Conan uses the enchanted belt to break free. Smashing the central crystal sphere holding golden pomegranates instantly destroys the acolytes, leaving the Master to murder Kerim Shah and transform into a giant serpent. Conan slays the beast and rescues Yasmina, then coordinates Vendhyan cavalry and Afghuli warriors to shatter the Turanian army. The Master falls disguised as a colossal vulture, leaving barbarian and queen in fierce defiance.
