Spots 
A young goat standing on the high roof of a house sees a wolf pass by on the ground below and hurls insults at him. The wolf stops and looks up, noting that the goat's courage comes entirely from his elevated position rather than his own strength. Height alone gives the weak a false sense of bravery.
A tortoise longs to see distant lands and persuades two ducks to carry him into the air on a wooden stick. The ducks grip each end of the stick in their beaks while the tortoise holds the middle with his mouth. When people below express wonder at the sight, the tortoise opens his mouth to boast and falls to the ground.
A mother crab scolds her son for walking sideways and demands that he walk straight forward. The young crab agrees to follow her instruction if she will first demonstrate how to walk forward properly. The mother tries to walk straight, fails completely, and realizes the foolishness of her demand.
Discontented with their peaceful life, the frogs petition Jupiter to grant them a ruler to govern their pond. Jupiter drops a heavy wooden log into the water, which frightens them at first before they realize it is inert and demand a more active sovereign. Jupiter then sends a stork, which systematically devours the entire population.
A country mouse hosts his city cousin for a simple meal of dried seeds and wheat stalks. The town mouse sneers at the modest fare and invites his host to a lavish banquet at a city mansion. Their feast is abruptly ruined when barking hounds burst into the room, forcing both mice to flee for their lives.
A hungry fox spots ripe purple grapes hanging high on a garden trellis. He leaps repeatedly into the air but cannot reach the cluster. Exhausted and defeated, he walks away while insisting to himself that the grapes were sour and unworthy of his effort.
A lion catches a small mouse that awakened him, but spares the creature's life after hearing its plea. Later, hunters trap the lion in a heavy rope net anchored to the ground. Hearing the lion's distressed roars, the tiny mouse arrives and gnaws through the thick ropes to free him.
