River Sabri recedes, Godavari rises, authorities on alert

More than 3,200 families have been affected and 18 villages submerged due to flooding in the Sabari river in Chintoor agency area in Polavaram district. By Sunday night, the inflow into the Sabari river has receded, however the rising level of the river Godavari river posed a fresh threat of submergence to villages along the banks of the Sabari and Godavari in Polavaram district.

According to the Godavari flood report, the water level at Bhadrachalam stood at 42.80 feet, with a discharge of 9.22 lakh cusecs, on Sunday night. The first Godavari flood warning is issued when the water level reaches 43 feet. The floodwater from Bhadrachalam is expected to reach Chintoor on Monday.

Authorities have alerted residents of at least 160

Authorities have alerted residents of at least 160 villages about the rising water levels in the Godavari river. Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Subham Nokwal said: “At least 134 women requiring antenatal care have been shifted to nearby hospitals and 105 relief centres would remain open in Chintoor agency in the wake of the Godavari flood.”
