Chapter IV. THE FLIGHT

Danger and excitement wake an island's cyclical ecosystem

Peter's return instantly reactivates Neverland, setting its distinct factions into a continuous pursuit loop. The Lost Boys search for Peter, Captain Hook's ruthless pirates hunt the boys, indigenous warriors track the pirates, and wild beasts stalk the warriors. Hook commands his crew with chilling sophistication, driven by a deep malice toward Peter. Tinker Bell uses Tootles' foolish innocence to trick him into shooting down Wendy as she arrives.

Chapter V. THE ISLAND COME TRUE

Domestic warmth creates sanctuary even in hostile wild lands

Wendy survives the arrow strike because Peter's acorn button, worn on her necklace, absorbs the impact. Realizing Tinker Bell's jealousy caused the near-fatal attack, Peter banishes the fairy temporarily. John and Michael are enlisted as servants, establishing Wendy as the essential mother figure for the entire band.

During a quiet afternoon at Marooners' Lagoon, pirates Smee and Starkey arrive by boat to drown the captured Tiger Lily. Peter trickily mimics Hook's voice to command her release, sparking a ferocious battle when the real Hook discovers the deception. Peter is wounded and left stranded on a rising rock alongside Wendy as the tide encroaches. Facing imminent danger, Peter stoically notes that dying will be an awfully big adventure.

Chapter VIII. THE MERMAIDS’ LAGOON

Nature repays kindness with unexpected tools for survival

Stranded on the rapidly submerging rock, Peter receives help from a Never Bird floating on her nest. Though they cannot understand each other's speeches, the bird surrenders her nest so Peter can use it as a boat. Peter carefully transfers her eggs into Starkey's abandoned waterproof hat, allowing the bird to keep sitting on them. He sails back to safety using his shirt as a sail, returning to the subterranean home intact.

Chapter IX. THE NEVER BIRD

Authority thrives on affection while danger gathers above ground

Saving Tiger Lily earns Peter the absolute devotion of the Indigenous warriors, who guard the underground home's surface entrance. Peter revels in his commanding status as the Great White Father, while Wendy manages household chores and keeps peace among the boys. During a rowdy pretend supper, the children celebrate their makeshift family structure with dances and evening games. Outside, however, Hook prepares a decisive ambush to wipe out their protection.

Chapter X. THE HAPPY HOME

Maternal faith inspires the choice to return to reality

Wendy tells the boys a bedtime story about parents who keep their nursery window open, waiting faithfully for their children's return. Peter bitterly counters her tale, revealing that his own mother barred the window and replaced him with another boy. Alarmed by this revelation, Wendy, John, and Michael decide instantly that they must fly home to London before it is too late. The Lost Boys beg to join them, leaving Peter secretly heartbroken but outwardly indifferent.

Chapter XI. WENDY’S STORY

Treachery shatters traditional codes of combat

Hook breaks unwritten rules of warfare by launching a sudden, brutal assault on the native guardians before dawn. The surprise attack decimates Tiger Lily's forces, leaving Hook victorious and free to target the children. Hook's obsession with Peter is driven not just by his lost hand, but by an intense hatred of Peter's unshakeable arrogance. Listening from above, the pirates prepare to capture the children the moment they emerge from their trees.

Chapter XII. THE CHILDREN ARE CARRIED OFF

Malice targets vulnerability through insidious means

The pirates seize the children one by one as they step out from their hollow trees, binding them for transport. Hook discovers Slightly's tree was widened to accommodate his size, granting the pirate captain direct access to the hidden home below. Finding Peter sleeping soundly, Hook poisons his medicine glass rather than striking him directly with his blade. Tinker Bell drinks the poison to save Peter, whose belief in fairies revives her from near death.

Chapter XIII. DO YOU BELIEVE IN FAIRIES?

Obsession with form corrupts even victorious leaders

Aboard the Jolly Roger, Hook paces the deck in deep melancholy despite holding the children captive. He suffers from an agonizing obsession with good form, tormenting himself over whether his villainy lacks aristocratic refinement. Smee's unconscious lovability among the children infuriates Hook, who sees it as an infuriating form of natural elegance. When Hook forces the captured boys to choose between joining his crew or walking the plank, Wendy inspires their resolve.

Chapter XIV. THE PIRATE SHIP

Cleverness and courage dismantle ruthless tyranny

Peter sneaks aboard the pirate ship by mimicking the ticking crocodile, terrifying Hook and causing chaos among the superstitious crew. Stealing into the cabin, Peter silently eliminates pirates sent inside, while the boys conceal his presence. Once revealed, Peter engages Hook in a duel across the deck, exposing the captain's inner terror. Defeated by Peter's agility and good form, Hook leaps into the sea directly into the waiting crocodile's jaws.

Peter takes command of the pirate vessel, sailing it toward England while Wendy knits new clothes for the crew. In London, Mr. Darling lives inside Nana's dog kennel out of deep guilt for causing his children's flight. Mrs. Darling keeps the nursery window open day and night, steadfastly refusing to abandon hope. Their shared grief and public penance set the stage for the family's eventual reunion when the children finally return.

Chapter XVI. THE RETURN HOME
