In September 1883 along the White Nile, Egyptian officer Abd-el-Kerim arrives in Mahmudiyah to meet his comrade Notis Cayma. Yet tragic romance demands a final toll, as Sheikh Abu-el-Nemr, silently heartbroken over Fathma, takes his own life beside the Mahdi.
