Part 1

As rebellion erupts, Wiardes leads armed peasants against Graf Botho’s castle and Kloster Himmelpforte. Landsknecht Paul Rese rescues Judith as Himmelpforte burns, while Wiardes faces execution in the town square after his uprising collapses.

Judith's desperate plea to Graf Botho and Duchess Elisabeth converts Wiardes's death sentence into exile, inspiring his repentance. Former Prior Tiemann casts off monastic vows to marry Judith in a Protestant ceremony officiated by Luther. Paul Rese and Bärbele commit to a new civilian life as Wernigerode embraces evangelical reforms. Luther frames true faith as individual conviction rather than coercion, anticipating future tribulations while anchoring Germany's spiritual renewal.
