The State government has appointed R. Venkataramana, now serving as the Additional Director, Disease Control Programme, in the office of the DPH, as In-Charge Director of Public Health (DPH). Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav gave approval for the appointment on Tuesday.
The development comes as K. Padmavathi, who has been serving as the Director of Public Health for the past 33 months, is set to retire from service on Wednesday, September 30. She has been associated with the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare in various positions for the past 37 years.
Before selecting Dr. Venkataramana, the department had considered the profiles of seven officials for the post. Two of them had inquiries pending against them and another two did not have the requisite experience. Another official had worked as the District Medical and Health Officer only for three months, and yet another official was set to retire in June next, a release from the department said.
In a separate development, the government appointed cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon C. Prabhakar Reddy as the new Superintendent of Nandyal Government General Hospital (GGH). He is currently working as a professor at the Kurnool Government Medical College.
Recently, nine professors working at various government medical colleges and general hospitals were promoted as Additional Directors of Medical Education (ADME).
