Spots 
A desperate tenderfoot fleeing across the Arizona desert encounters a dead traveler crushed by a stampeding herd. Needing an escape from his past, he switches personal belongings with the corpse to fake his own death. Posse members led by Sheriff Burke examine the body and mistakenly identify it as Richard Bellamy. Meanwhile, the starving fugitive stumbles into a valley where a young woman works near a branding fire.

Melissy Lee accuses Jack Flatray of rustling after finding a shot cow and a partially branded calf. Jack denies the charge, yet patiently assists her down a rocky cliff after she wrenches her ankle. As they argue, he realizes the true thief blurred the brand and used his silk kerchief to frame him. Melissy remains conflicted between her deep anger and her lingering personal trust in Jack.

Melissy learns that her father Champ Lee plans to rob a gold shipment with the outlaw Norris. Determined to prevent his ruin, she dons her brother's clothes and holds up the Fort Allison stage herself. She safely secures the heavy gold chest in a runabout vehicle and drives it to the ranch. There, she cleverly disguised the stolen treasure chest as a simple wooden washstand.

Tensions escalate when Melissy attempts to return money to mine owner Thomas Morse. Her father Champ Lee refuses to compromise with Morse despite their severe economic disputes. Shortly after, the detective Norris confronts Morse and reveals his rival's true identity as Richard Bellamy.
