Sent to fetch gloves from the White Rabbit’s house, Alice drinks from an unlabelled bottle and swells to fill the entire bedroom. Her gigantic hand out the window and foot up the chimney terrify the gathering crowd of small creatures outside. The Rabbit sends Bill the lizard down the chimney, but Alice easily kicks him into the sky. Small pebbles thrown at her turn into cakes, allowing her to shrink and escape into the woods.

CHAPTER IV. The Rabbit Sends in a Little Bill

Identity requires navigating contradictory advice and arbitrary boundaries

Perched on a mushroom, a languid Caterpillar demands that Alice define who she is while blowing smoke from a hookah. Unmoved by her confusion over constant size changes, he informs her that opposite sides of the mushroom will make her grow taller or shorter. Nibbling the edges causes her neck to stretch above the forest canopy, prompting a defensive Pigeon to mistake her for an egg-stealing serpent. Identity becomes a matter of perspective, scale, and environmental definitions.

Alice enters the noisy home of the Duchess, where a cook hurls kitchenware while pepper fills the air and a Cheshire Cat grins broadly. Sent off with a sneezing baby, Alice watches in astonishment as the child transforms into a pig in her arms and trots away. The Cheshire Cat reappears on a tree branch, explaining that everyone in Wonderland is mad, including Alice herself. Social etiquette collapses into violence, transformation, and pervasive insanity.

CHAPTER VI. Pig and Pepper

Alice joins the Hatter, March Hare, and sleeping Dormouse at a table stuck in perpetual tea-time because the Hatter quarreled with Time. The Duchess smothers Alice with forced morals before the Queen dispatches Alice to meet the Gryphon and the weeping Mock Turtle. Despite his dramatic lamentation, the Gryphon reveals that his sorrow is purely theatrical and completely fabricated. The creatures demand endless performance without providing sensible explanations for their customs. Cultural tradition manifests as mandatory adherence to absurd, performative steps.

Alice attends the trial of the Knave of Hearts, who stands accused of stealing royal tarts. The court operates on absurd legal premises: jurors record nonsense on slates, and the Hatter gives confused, terrified testimony while clutching his teacup. The judicial process reveals itself to be a farce driven by arbitrary rules and judicial panic.

Called as a witness, a full-sized Alice knocks over the jury box and rejects the King's fabricated legal rules. When the Queen demands immediate sentence before a verdict and orders her beheading, Alice defies the monarch by declaring them all mere playing cards. The card pack attacks, snapping her awake on the riverbank beside her sister. Maturity and reason dismantle authority, reducing tyrant figures to flat, harmless paper.
